Experimental Vascular Medicine
Andreas Schober

Led by Professor Andreas Schober, the group investigates molecular mechanisms of vascular repair and atherosclerosis, such as chemokine-mediated recruitment of vascular stem cells, lipoprotein-induced endothelial cell activation and the role of small, non-coding microRNAs in vascular inflammation.
The group discovered that CXCL12 mediates neointima formation after vascular injury, LPA is a major pro-atherogenic agent of oxidized LDL, and microRNA-155 promotes atherosclerosis by facilitating pro-inflammatory macrophage activation.
