Z3: Core facility for genetically engineered pig lines

Project Z3 assembles genetically (multi-)modified pig lines and the animal housing capacities available at FLI, LMU and TUM to supply donor pigs for preclinical xenotransplantation studies. The diversity of donor pigs regarding blood groups and SLA will be examined to evaluate their potential influence on the outcome of transplantation experiments. A hygiene concept is implemented for eventually providing donor pigs for clinical trials. This includes continuous monitoring of the microbiological status by independent agencies as well as the development of novel tests within the Consortium.
