We warmly congratulate Selin Gencer for winning Poster Prize at EVOluTION Conference

EVOluTION is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Network (ITN) doctoral programme coordinated by Mauro Perretti from Queen Mary University London. It has been designed to provide multidisciplinary training for 11 PhD students on various aspects of drug discovery and development including preclinical and clinical research, commercial and business opportunities and intellectual property.

The EVOluTION Annual network meeting and Transferable Skills Training was hosted by Individual Research Project Supervisor Oliver Söhnlein from the IPEK this year and took place from September 9th-11th near us in the 10th century Benedictine monastery Seeon Abbey.

The conference was an opportunity for the EVOluTION early stages researchers to showcase and present their research to an international scientific audience, alongside presentations by world-class researchers in the field of inflammation and endogenous tissue protection. High-profile external speakers at the conference included Professors Charles Serhan and Filip Swirski from Harvard Medical School, Professor Eike Latz from the University of Bonn, Professor Esther Lutgens from the University of Amsterdam and Professor Olaf Wolkenhauer from the University of Rostock. Moreover, a number of external PhD students from network beneficiaries participated, taking the opportunity to add value to their training as well as facilitate networking amongst peers and members of the wider scientific community.

A student poster competition was held as part of the conference, open to both EVOluTION early stages researchers and external PhD students. Of the 20 posters presented, four independent judges selected two joint best poster awards. We are delighted that PhD student Selin Gencer from the Döring lab at IPEK joined as an external PhD student and won the Poster Prize together with LMU Klinikum fellow Fitsumbirhan Mehari. We warmly congratulate the two of them!
