The ESC Outstanding Achievement Award 2016 was given to Prof. Sabine Steffens during the ESC meeting in Rome. With this award the ESC Council for Basic Cardiovascular Science (CBCS) honours basic researchers with outstanding accomplishments in the early stage of their career. The award was given at the Basic Science Poster Reception during the ESC Congress. Prof. Steffens was honored for her scientific contributions on the role of the endocannabinoid signaling in cardiovascular disease (e.g. Steffens et al. Nature 2005), and more recently on the relevance of neutrophils in post-myocardial infarction repair (Horckmans et al European Heart Journal 2016; Schloss et al EMBO Molecular Medicine 2016).
