Sarah-Lena Puhl and Remco Megens awarded ERA-NET CVD Funding

We congratulate IPEK scientists Sarah-Lena Puhl and Remco Megens on obtaining ERA-CVD Funding for a period of three years.

For her project on the interplay of the nervous with the immune system and its influence on hypertension and heart failure, Sarah-Lena, a postdoctoral fellow in the Steffens lab, paired up with international partners Slava Epelman from Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (Canada) and Tomasz Pawel Mikolajczyk from Jagiellonian University (Poland). The project is coordinated by Daniela Carnevale from the IRCCS Neuromed Mediterranean Neurological Institute in Italy. For his project exploiting the immunomodulatory properties of CD8+T cells as nanomedicine for athereosclerosis, Remco teamed up with Koen Raemdonck from the Ghent University in Belgium. This project is coordinated by Bram Slütter from Leiden University (Netherlands).

The funding should enable Early Career Scientists in different countries to build an effective collaboration on common multidisciplinary research projects. The consortia encourages complementarities and sharing of expertise in the field of cardiovascular disease, with a clear translational research approach. It also promotes co-operation and interchange between Early Career Scientists, international collaboration and new consortia establishment in cardiovascular research.
