The Research Training Group “Oligonucleotides in Cell Biology and Therapy” (DFG Graduiertenkolleg 1202) integrates nine research groups of the university to an internationally oriented competitive education unit. The participation of the medical faculty as well as the faculty of natural sciences and groups with focus on immunology, molecular biology and biophysics guarantees a high degree of interdisciplinarity. The central part of this Research Training Group is led by the speaker Prof. Dr. S. Endres (Division of Clinical Pharmacology) and has become an extraordinary training environment for young scientists.

After ten years of productive research and teaching the Research Training Group 1202 was concluded on October 31rst 2015. Several of the involved research groups have been successful in establishing a two new doctoral training groups: 1) „i-Target: Immunotargeting of Cancer“ (2014 to 2022), International Doctorate Program funded by the Elite Network of the State of Bavaria  and 2) „Immuntrain: Training Network for the Immunotherapy of Cancer" (2016 to 2018), Marie Sklodowska Curie Program of Horizon 2020 (speaker Prof. Dr. Stefan Endres, scientific coordinator PD Dr. Sebastian Kobold).
