Micro-Decompression for Spinal Claudication

Lumbar spinal stenosis is a very frequent problem and an increasing cause for surgical intervention.

However, since there are far more people with spinal canal narrowing seen on MRI than patients with spinal claudication, the indication for surgery is not always obvious.

In general, precise history taking, clinical examination and diagnostic injections will be sufficent to corroborate the diagnosis.

In very complex cases, we collaborate with our colleagues from Radiology, Neurology and Vascular Surgery in order to ascertain the diagnosis, prior to recommending surgery.

When there is no additional instability or relevant deformity and when conservative treatment fails, microsurgical decompression is the procedure of choice for these patients.

The access trauma and the size of the incision is in most cases no larger that for a microsurgical disc surgery.
