Polyclinic (University outpatient clinic)

Doctor in charge

Professor Dr. med. Oliver Pogarell

Dr. med. Elke Harms (Specialist in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy)

The psychiatric polyclinic (university outpatient clinic) is open to anyone with a mental illness. It is the first point of contact for patients and their relatives who are seeking advice. We provide counselling and treatment based on the latest findings in modern psychiatry and psychotherapy.

Below you can find answers to the most important questions about our outpatient clinic:

What kind of patients do we see?

Patients with any kind of mental problem. Appointments are offered during clinic hours.

Do I need to have a diagnosis already?

A prior diagnosis is not necessary. When you register with us, however, please let us know if you have been in psychiatric care elsewhere or if we are your first point of contact for treatment.

What happens at the outpatient clinic?

We treat all mental illnesses. At the psychiatric polyclinic, we inform patients about options for in- and outpatient treatment and, if desired, experimental treatment in studies. If necessary, we will arrange treatment as an inpatient or in our day care unit or we may transfer you to one of our outpatient clinics that is specialised in your particular illness.

How often do I have to go to the outpatient clinic?

That depends on the clinical picture and your symptoms. Usually, we arrange one appointment a quarter as part of your psychiatric treatment plan or for follow-up treatment after a stay at the hospital.

Do I have to register beforehand, and/or do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral. You need to make an appointment to help us avoid long waiting times.

Can I participate in studies?

Yes, it is possible to participate in studies. If a study might be suitable for you, your doctor will talk to you about it. Participation in studies is always voluntary.
