Brief information on internships and job orientation internships for psychology students

praktikum

The core focus of the neuropsychological-clinical internship is to use standard neuropsychological, performance-related and clinical test procedures to evaluate patients being treated in the hospital for various psychiatric illnesses. Other activities include preparing and conducting inpatient group therapies together with a psychologist from the ward. Overall, the internship provides a wealth of experience in working as a psychologist in the field of psychiatric care. The internship, which lasts at least 6 weeks, can be completed towards the end of a bachelor’s or master’s degree or in between the two. Detailed information can be found here.

Internships in the field of psychosomatics and psychotherapy can also be completed at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. These internships are in acute psychiatry and focus on clinical psychology and psychotherapy.
Students are given the opportunity to participate in a series of behavioural therapy-oriented group therapy programmes; programmes may be for patients with a specific disorder or for patients with various disorders. If the participants agree, students may join group and individual ward visits, team discussions and individual therapies with patients on the ward to which they have been assigned. Additional components of the internship are participation in the hospital further education events every Wednesday morning and a weekly group supervision with the lead psychologist. Overall, students can gain broad experience in the work of a psychologist in the field of clinical psychology and further education in psychiatry.
The minimum duration of an internship is four weeks.
