Goals - Mission Statement

The goals of the Center are:

  • optimized treatment of patients with acute stroke and other vascular conditions by means of a quality controlled interdisciplinary treatment plan
  • the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques

  • a systematic clinical and scientific evaluation of these techniques

The new centralized structure allows providing patients with a coordinated treatment plan that also entails shorter waiting times and systematic medical after-care. The ISZM supplies a comprehensive spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Treatments are focused among others on:

  • acute strokes
  • stenoses of extra- and intra-cranial arteries
  • intra-cerebral aneurysms
  • arteriovenous malformations (cerebral and spinal)
  • dural arteriovenous fistulae
  • cavernomas

The medical center in Großhadern (University Hospital of Munich and Cyberknife Center) has become a hub for treatment of complex cerebral and spinal angiopathies. The number of referrals is constantly growing. Staff of the participating departments has contributed significantly to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. To point out the most important:

  • interventional treatment of basilar artery thrombosis
  • radiosurgical minimal-invasive radiotherapy of intra-cerebral angiomae with the Cyberknife
  • interventional treatment of spinal angiomas
  • neutralization of aneurysms and angiomae by minimal-invasive access techniques
  • revascularization surgery in the treatment of vascular occlusion and complex vascular malformations
  • resection of brain stem cavernomas previously considered to be inoperable
  • complex multidisciplinary treatment acute stroke
  • intensive care
