AMPA (Applied Medicine and Psychology at work)

For several years, the research group has been dealing with health impacts of working conditions for employees, with regard to workplace health promotion as well as with the integration of ill patients in working life. The group consists mainly of occupational psychologists and physicians in order to answer questions requiring interdisciplinary expertise.

The group originated from the research group “Clinical occupational medicine” and is part of the institute and polyclinic of occupational, social and environmental medicine, university hospital of Munich.


Over the past few years projects especially concerning the following main topics have been accomplished:

  • Impacts of fine dust on cardiovascular health
  • Health impacts of ambient air low in oxygen (normobaric hypoxia)
  • Individual occupational stress prevention
  • Psychocardiology in occupational context
  • Health promotion of overweight individuals
  • Health promotion of long-term unemployed individuals
  • Health promotion of hospital staff (physicians, nurses, etc.)
  • Age-appropriate working conditions for employees in the healthcare sector
  • Risk, stress and strain analysis
  • Analysis of participant oriented work and organisational management.


We carry out research and development projects of own interest and after receiving orders/requests for selected research issues.  All of the above-mentioned projects are or were externally funded:

Scientific academic services of the AG AMPA (Applied Medicine and Psychology at work)


Scientific academic services are principally offered on the assumption that there is scientific interest in the cooperation and that at least certain parts of the findings may be published.


Topics of particular interest to the research group are the following:

  • Psychosocial risk assessment and stress at work evaluations
  • Analysis of working conditions with special focus on an ageing workforce (demographic change)
  • Interventions aimed at improving psychosocial working conditions 
  • Interventions aimed at improving individual abilities at dealing with adverse psychosocial working conditions (“stress prevention”)
  • Workplace health promotion projects
  • Projects aimed at improving healthcare for disadvantaged groups (especially unemployed individuals or those in threat of unemployment)


Particular fields of our expertise are healthcare (physicians and nursing staff), production industry (metal industry) and international agencies.
