Memory Clinic

With increasing age, many people report a decline of cognitive skills like memory or attention. This process may be normal and age-related.

It may, however, be attributable to an underlying disease process (such as vascular disease, depression, metabolic malfunction) and potentially to incipient dementia including Alzheimer's disease.

In Europe, more than 5 million people suffer from dementia disorders with almost two thirds accounted for by Alzheimer's disease. Early recognition of cognitive decline is important as the clinical course can often be positively influenced by preventive means and targeted treatments.

In our Memory Clinic, patients and individuals at risk receive comprehensive diagnostic workup, counselling, and treatment. The ISDLMU is dedicated to identify possible causes of cognitive decline in the framework of a diagnostic process that is streamlined according to latest scientific results.

There is a close cooperation with the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). Integration into the Klinikum der Universität München and neighbouring institutions notably the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry provides access to the full spectrum of modern academic medicine. Consultation is provided in close contact with family physicians and medical specialists.
