There are three convincing arguments for taking an interdisciplinary approach to vertigo:
• after headache, vertigo is the second most common cardinal symptom, not only in neurology and otorhinolaryngology;
• most vertigo syndromes can be correctly diagnosed following a careful analysis of the medical history and a physical examination, without the need for additional examinations using technical equipment; and
• most vertigo syndromes have a benign cause, a favorable course and can be treated successfully.
