Dear Colleagues,
This Fourth International Master Class of the German Center for Vertigo and Balance Disorders and the European DIZZYNET on vestibular, ocular motor and balance disorders covers the whole field of peripheral, central and functional vestibular disorders. The basis for the diagnosis of vestibular signs and symptoms is a profound understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the vestibular and ocular motor systems as well as detailed knowledge on how to take patient history and skills to examine both systems. Therefore, on day one these topics and the most frequent peripheral, central and functional vestibular diseases are covered by plenary talks, also on the basis of their new classification by the Bárány Society.
On day two there are 90 min clinical hands-on courses in small groups on how to perform the bedside examination of the vestibular and ocular motor system and on how to use and apply important laboratory examinations such as the video-head impulse test, vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials or posturography. Further, courses are also given for scientists on methods in vestibular research as well as functional imaging of the vestibular and ocular motor systems.
This year we are delighted to welcome two highly regarded international speakers: Michael Halmagyi from Sydney and David Zee from Baltimore.
This Educational Master Class has two major aims: first, increasing knowledge and improving practical skills; second discussing and establishing international standards for the management of dizzy patients.
