welcome to the website of the University Eye Hospital of the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU). This is Germany's largest and one of Europe's largest eye hospitals.  Every year over 50000 patients are treated at our out-patient centre and more than 8500 surgeries are performed. The University Eye Hospital delivers the complete spectrum of conservative and surgical ophthalmology on the most up-to-date basis of modern ophthalmology. Many of our clinicians and scientists are known as national and international experts in their specific subspeciality field. The University Eye Hospital is the most cited scientific ophthalmic instituition in the german speaking world. You can benefit of our doctor's knowledge in 14 out-patient subspecialty care units every day. Each day ophthalmic surgeries of the lids, the orbit, ocular muscles, conjunctiva and cornea, the whole anterior segment of the eye (lens, iris) as well as of the vitreous, retina and the macula are performed in seven surgery rooms. In 2007 a new out-patient surgery centre was opened which has direct access to the large surgery rooms. Did you know that at at the University Eye Hospital at LMU most vitreoretinal surgeries in Germany are performed each year. In a recently published study asking about which ophthalmic institution was most recommended by ophthalmologists in the Munich area, the University Eye Hospital at LMU ranked as one of Munichs finest institutions for ophthalmology [Klinikführer München]. Our goals can be summarized as "Teaching, Science, Evaluation and Patient-Care". With our teaching programs each year many national and international medical doctors recieve their education in the field of ophthalmology at our institution. Our research helps to introduce new therapeutic options for our ophthalmic patients. Evaluation is necessary to further study these new therapies adressing long term safety and sustainability to the well-being of our patients. In the end all these measurements contribute to our goal of the best possible patient care in ophthalmology.
