About the CIH

The CIHLMU Center for International Health was selected as one of five Centers of Excellence for Development Cooperation (exceed) by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in 2009. The Center is funded through this award by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for a five year period. A subsequent application for the follow-up period 205 to 2019 is currently under review. Within the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, four faculties and 12 institutes were involved in the planning and founding procedure of the CIHLMU. They continue to work together with more than 50 universities and ministries worldwide, with the World Health Organization and other stakeholders in the field of health.

What is the CIHLMU

The CIHLMU Center for International Health has become an institution at the LMU over the years, where numerous different institutes of the LMU that are engaged or that are planning to engage in international cooperations and their numerous existing international partners, have joined forces. The CIHLMU offers an environment where joint activities can be designed, set up and conducted. The different member institutions combine a vast spectrum of experiences in international research and international academic education. The CIHLMU facilitates building up of new international partnerships to current and future members, both by housing reliable potential partners worldwide and by offering support and know-how in international project management. Projects associated with the CIHLMU may be bilateral between an international partner and an LMU institution, bilateral between two international partner institutions, or multilateral. Projects directly managed by the CIHLMU always focus on academic education.
